Our inaugural NAU Mathematics and Statistics Annual Newsletter is here! It captures highlights from the 2025–2026 academic year, and I’m excited to share it.

I took over as department chair in July 2025. My first year brought plenty of challenges and opportunities for growth, but it also gave me a much fuller view of the things happening in our department. Putting this newsletter together was a welcome chance to step back from the day-to-day work and appreciate the people behind it.

Inside, you’ll find student achievements, faculty research, outreach events, alumni stories, and tributes to colleagues. There’s mathematics at a brewery, students sharing research near and far, and even a little competitive arguing about which discipline civilization needs most. Apparently, I had opinions.

Here’s a short unboxing video from yours truly:

We printed just a handful of copies, but the full digital edition is available for everyone:

You’ll also find ways to support our students and help us build a dedicated home for student research. Whether you’re an alum, a colleague, a student, or a friend of the department, I hope you’ll take a look and find something that makes you smile, sparks your curiosity, or gives you a reason to reconnect.

Thanks to everyone who contributed stories, photos, and patient proofreading. This is the first of what I hope will be many annual newsletters. What an awesome community we have!
